POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Perform administrative and operational support duties for the Public Policy Department

REPORTS TO:

Director, Policy Operations

LOCATION:

Washington, DC; eligible to earn telework 2 days/week

PAY RANGE:

An hourly equivalent to $50,000 - $55,000 annually

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform general administrative support duties including initial drafting of memorandums, policy bulletins, correspondence to stakeholders and letters to Congress, the Executive Branch and federal agencies.
  • Assist in organizing and coordinating meetings and meeting materials, e.g., agendas, communicating with attendees, and logistical details, for events held at the AFBF’s Washington D.C. office including meetings with membership and industry stakeholders.
  • Track status of emerging issues, legislation, regulations, and other pertinent information to update AFBF staff and leadership.
  • Assist in coordinating economic analysis and reporting for public facing reports and advocacy materials.
  • Help ensure program, project and task files and properly stored and accessible to AFBF staff and leadership, including document management.
  • Ensure timely processing of invoices and expenses for AFBF staff and leadership.
  • Assist with other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:

Works daily with all team members of the Public Policy Department. Works with other AFBF team members, state Farm Bureau staff and volunteer leaders as needed.

EDUCATION OR TRAINING

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in a professional environment
EXPERIENCE AND

SKILLS REQUIRED:
  • Strong business communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and One Drive)
  • Detail oriented and strong editing skills
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proactive planning and can demonstrate good judgement
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
  • Experience with email correspondence software such as Mail Chimp
  • Courteous and professional demeanor
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING/

SKILLS:
  • Familiarity with Farm Bureau or an agricultural trade association
  • Experience with legislative tracking and advocacy related platforms
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
  • Occasional travel for on-site assistance is required
