Position: Student Assistant (Part-Time) for the DLR Office Washington

The Washington Office of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) is seeking a Student Assistant (M/F/D) to join the team as a local employee under U.S. labor regulations starting immediately. We offer a paid part-time position (approximately USD 18-20 per hour).

The overarching goal of the DLR Office Washington is to establish, maintain, and further develop research and technology cooperation across all DLR research fields, as well as to support the German Space Agency at DLR in fulfilling its responsibilities for the Federal Republic of Germany. In addition, the office represents the interests of German federal ministries and German industry on site in connection with DLR-related topics.

The DLR Office Washington has existed since 1984 and is located in an office suite together with other German representations in the heart of Washington, D.C. It serves as a central point of contact for DLR partners in the United States and Canada. You will join a highly motivated three-person team that works collaboratively, supports one another, and operates flexibly. Being a reliable and trustworthy partner for our national and international stakeholders is essential to us.

Your Tasks
  • You support the team in researching and preparing information on current developments related to DLR focus areas such as space, aviation, transport, energy, and security.
  • You assist in organizing events and preparing background notes for our Executive Board.
  • You help maintain and update our website and internal wiki.
  • You support the team with administrative tasks, such as maintaining address lists and invitation lists.
Your Profile
  • Enrollment at an accredited university (undergraduate or graduate level)
  • Strong knowledge of the U.S. research landscape, particularly in the aerospace sector, as well as a solid understanding of the U.S. political system
  • Good understanding of transatlantic relations; ideally experience in international cooperation
  • Excellent German language skills, both written and spoken (C1 or C2 level)
  • Confident use of MS Office applications, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, as well as internet research tools (including the use of AI tools)
  • Independent, structured, and conscientious working style
