Specialized experience is defined as:For the GS-9:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, GS-7. Specialized experience must be documented in your resume.
Specialized experience includes: Performing administrative and business support functions such as coordinating office operations and schedules; preparing, reviewing, and routing correspondence and staff actions; supporting personnel, travel, records, events, supply/property, and time-and-attendance activities; applying administrative policies and procedures; and gathering and analyzing information to resolve administrative problems and improve office processes.
Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including Volunteer experience.
