Keen Logic is seeking Summer Enrichment Counselors to join our team at the House of Representatives Childcare Center on Capitol Hill. The purpose of 'A Capitol Experience' Summer Enrichment Program is to provide school age children (ages 6-13) of Members, Officers, and staff of the House, Senate, and other legislative agencies the opportunity to see where their family member(s) work and to help them better understand the significance of the Washington, DC area as the seat of the federal government.

The program offers an enriching and quality educational experience with a wide variety of motivational and recreational activities in a safe, healthy, and fun atmosphere.

The contract spans five weeks, from July 6th to August 7th. The schedule includes five preparation days from July 6th to July 10th. The program is divided into two sessions:
Session 1 runs from July 13th to July 24th and Session 2 from July 27th to August 6th. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, totaling 40 hours per week. Candidates must be available for all five weeks.

Requirements
  • Experience working in a district setting as a paraprofessional, teacher aide, before/after school provider, or summer camp setting
  • Must have an associate degree in education or related field (bachelor’s degree and teacher credential/license preferred)
  • Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First Aid certification (Required to obtain before start date)
  • Must be able to secure and maintain Federal Government security checks as deemed appropriate
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Duties
  • Provides active supervision of children, conducts daily child health and safety checks, and maintains child to staff ratios. Utilizes universal precautions; brings to Lead Counselors and administrators’ attention any relevant information or issues concerning or related to staff, children, and/or families
  • Prioritizes health and safety; monitors and responds appropriately to illness, injury, and other emergency situations
  • Maintains awareness of all special health and dietary needs. Follows cleaning and sanitation guidelines
  • Maintains accurate records of attendance and ensures that data confidentiality is maintained
  • Facilitates camper check-ins and check-outs, verifying camper safety during transition times
  • Tracks attendance ensuring proper supervision ratios are maintained throughout the day
  • Implements and enforces camp rules and regulations, ensuring a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Supervises children during mealtimes, ensuring they are eating in a safe and socially appropriate manner
  • Ensures children move safely from the metro to the daily excursions
  • Provides guidance and support to children during structured and unstructured activities, offering encouragement and ensuring everyone is included
  • Coordinates with other counselors to plan and execute camp excursions
  • Assesses and adapts camp activities as needed to accommodate different age groups, abilities, and interests, ensuring all children have an enjoyable experience
  • Monitors and enforces camp policies, ensuring that children and families understand and follow rules while promoting a positive, respectful atmosphere
  • Assists in the development and implementation of camp themes, activities, and schedules that align with the camp’s mission and goals
  • Develops familiarity and maintains compliance with all applicable legal requirements including House, Committee, CAO, and House Summer Enrichment rules, practices, policies, and procedures
  • Treats all children, families, and staff with dignity and respect, allowing for individual differences. Establishes positive relationships with each child, family member, and counselor
  • Communicates effectively and professionally both orally and in writing; maintains confidentiality
  • Returns relevant items to designated storage areas and maintains organization throughout the camp room
  • Monitors usage and inventory levels of all supplies and materials and advises administrators of related needs and issues
  • Communicates with administrators for any changes to the daily schedule or excursions
  • Responsible for maintaining metro cards and informing administrators if any are lost or missing
  • Communicates with administrators for any safety concerns
