FieldInspection & Oversight
- Inspect contractor operations to ensure compliance with contract plans, specifications, and DDOT standards and procedures.
- Observe construction activities on roadway reconstruction (paving, curb/gutter, sidewalks), bridge work (structural elements, drainage, lighting), utility installation and relocation, and monitor maintenance‑of‑traffic and work zone safety compliance.
- Carry out daily field observations, quantity tracking, documentation, and quality verification as DDOT's frontline presence on the project.
- Prepare daily Inspector Daily Reports (IDRs) documenting work performed, labor, equipment, and materials, weather and site conditions, and maintain detailed inspection records using DDOT‑required systems.
- Report field issues, discrepancies, and non‑compliant work to the Resident Engineer/Construction Manager and assist in maintaining complete project documentation for audits.
- Measure and record quantities of installed work daily, verify contractor‑reported quantities, and support preparation of pay estimates by providing accurate field data.
- Observe and verify materials, installation methods, and workmanship.
- Ensure testing is performed per specifications, identify and document deficient or non‑conforming work, and recommend acceptance or rejection of work to the Resident Engineer.
- Coordinate daily with contractor superintendents and crews, the Resident Engineer/Construction Manager, and communicate field conditions, conflicts, and progress updates.
- Assist with resolution of minor field issues.
- Observe contractor compliance with safety requirements, identify unsafe conditions and report immediately, and support enforcement of safe work practices in active work zones.
- Urban roadway reconstruction with phased maintenance‑of‑traffic.
- Bridge demolition and reconstruction.
- Utility trenching, drainage systems, and lighting installation.
- Streetscape improvements (sidewalks, ADA ramps, signage).
- Work in constrained right‑of‑way and high‑traffic corridors.
- High school diploma required;
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred. - Minimum 2–5 years of construction inspection experience on roadway and/or bridge projects.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Experience with field documentation and reporting.
- Experience on DDOT, SHA, or other DOT projects.
- Certifications such as NICET (Highway Construction or Transportation), OSHA 10, Traffic Control/MOT certification, Erosion & Sediment Control certification.
- Familiarity with AASHTO and MUTCD standards, DDOT Construction Management Manual.
- Technical skills in field documentation systems (e.g., Field Manager or similar), basic quantity tracking and measurement, Microsoft Office (Excel, Word).
- Ability to maintain organized project records.
