Overview
The Atlantic is seeking a skilled video producer to join the Atlantic’s podcast team. This producer will help develop and lead the production of a weekly news video podcast, to be published on You Tube as well as in its own audio podcast feed. They will occasionally work with the Radio Atlantic team to produce video shorts. The producer must be able to work independently and collaborate with the show’s host, editor, engineer, and the broader editorial team.
The role may require night, early-morning, and weekend work.
- Work with the host and editor to maintain editorial excellence and create a timely show
- Oversee end-to-end production of the show, from pre- to post-production
- Work with editor to hone ideas, structure episodes, and edit scripts
- Post-production: apply editorial judgment to deliver sharp first drafts on tight deadlines
- Cutting episodes, ensuring the tone and pacing support a compelling listening experience
- Manage the show’s production calendar
- Coordinate with teams across The Atlantic (legal, art, audience, copy desk, story editors, fact-checkers) to uphold high production standards
- Coordinate and manage all recording sessions, ensuring proper lighting, audio, and camera setup for host and guests
- Edit and enhance video content with graphics and transitions to create a polished final product
- Ensure consistency in visual and audio quality across episodes
- Collaborate with the audience team to create promotional video clips for social media
- Handle all audio uploading to video and audio platforms
- Proven experience in video production and editing (preferably in podcasting and journalism)
- Proficiency in recording and editing software, such as Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro
- Strong understanding of lighting, audio, and camera operation for high-quality video production
- Experience with remote recording workflows
- Outstanding editorial judgment, and strong communication and collaboration skills
- Demonstrated track record of producing high-quality work under ambitious deadlines and finding creative solutions to editorial problems
- Familiarity with You Tube and podcast distribution platforms
- Motion graphics and animation experience preferred
Salary minimum: $85,000;
Salary maximum: $100,000
This role is based in Washington D.C.
The schedule for this position is Sunday - Thursday.
