The Hill, a division of Nexstar Media Group, is hiring a Campaign Editor to lead our team covering the midterm elections from Washington, D.C.This is an exciting opportunity to lead campaign coverage for one of the most widely-read political news sites in the country. The position is responsible for content for our website and our print publication.

The successful applicant will oversee our campaign team, working with reporters and others in the newsroom to cover this year’s primaries, debates and elections. The focus extends not only to the races for the House and Senate, but to state and local elections that give readers intelligence on the prevailing winds in politics. Stories on the emerging presidential election are also a part of this beat in cooperation with our White House team.

The Hills’s campaign editor also works closely with other editors and reporters across our newsroom to guide political coverage, from breaking news to enterprise pieces by congressional, White House and policy reporters. The editor will coordinate with those responsible for our video efforts. The ability to be on camera and talk about campaigns, elections and politics is a plus.

The position includes night and weekend hours when necessary to cover the busy campaign season. We’re looking for someone with a hard work ethic, good time-management skills and the ability to lead and inspire a team with their ideas. An ability to write is also key, as there will be times for the campaign editor to provide spot coverage with breaking news and blog posts or an occasional feature.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Edit articles for clarity, accuracy, style, grammar, and adherence to The Hill's editorial standards
• Fact-checking and verify information to ensure accuracy and credibility
• Work with writers to develop and refine content, provide constructive feedback and suggest revisions
• Coordinate with other departments, such as design, production, and potentially marketing, to ensure smooth content flow and timely publication
• Manage deadlines and workflows for assigned content
• Perform other duties as assigned by senior management

Requirements &

Skills:

• A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is required
• Previous reporting or editing experience in a metro or national media environment.
• Basic familiarity with Google Trends, SEO skills and real-time analytics are a plus
• Excellent knowledge of current events and politics
• Must thrive in a collaborative work environment

Salary Range: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 based upon experience
