Job Description & How to Apply Below

Reuters is looking for a skilled, creative and ambitious editor to oversee our coverage of Capitol Hill, U.S. politics generally and federal law enforcement. The ideal candidate would move easily between fast-breaking news and enterprise, with the goal of capturing the news moment with distinctive stories and inspiring the best possible work from a talented, diverse group of reporters.

Experience editing political journalism is a must, as is the ability to consistently make good decisions about what to do (and not do) in a fast‑paced and highly competitive news environment. The ability to work with reporters to get scoops and break news is a must, as is the ability to elevate copy.

The best candidate for this job also will have a knack for finding the engaging, the off‑beat, the illuminating story target that others might not see. This editor will also have a leading role in shaping Reuters’ coverage of the coming elections in 2026 and 2028, with ample opportunity to put a stamp on the most important political stories of our time.

The position reports to the Washington bureau chief.
