Your New RoleCNN is seeking a sharp, editorially driven Associate Producer to support political reporting projects led by veteran journalist John King, including All Over the Map, a multi-platform series exploring American politics through the voices of voters.
This role is ideal for a journalist with strong research instincts, sound editorial judgment, and a passion for political storytelling. You will play a key role in developing deeply reported, narrative-driven content across broadcast, digital, streaming, and social platforms.
Your Role Accountabilities- Conduct in-depth research and background reporting to inform political coverage
- Identify compelling angles, data points, and contextual framing to strengthen stories
- Organize and maintain research files, source databases, archival materials, and editorial documentation to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and continuity across projects
- Collaborate effectively across editorial, production, and digital teams, contributing to a culture of clear communication, shared accountability, and high journalistic standards
- Develop and pitch story ideas in collaboration with producers and senior editorial staff
- Conduct pre-interviews and source outreach to shape segments and field reporting
- Take ownership of specific story elements from development through post-production
- Work closely with editors to organize materials, fact-check content, and refine narrative structure
- Monitor political developments, policy changes, polling, and electoral trends
- 2–4 years of experience in digital and/or broadcast journalism
- Demonstrated strength in research, writing, and editorial judgment
- Deep interest in U.S. politics and election coverage
- Ability to synthesize policy, polling, and data into accessible storytelling
- Experience working in fast-paced newsroom environments
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Willingness to travel occasionally as needed
- Experience supporting political or election coverage
- Familiarity with data-driven or policy reporting
- Experience producing content for multiple platforms
