The Staff Product Designer, Newsroom is an experienced designer who enjoys collaborating with product, engineering, research, editorial, analytics, content strategy and other designers to build efficient workflows and intuitive storytelling tools. This is an incredible opportunity to envision and design industry‑leading editorial experiences for creating news content consumed by millions of audiences across the globe.

Your Role Accountabilities
  • Be an integral part of the product design team that is creating the next generation of CNN editorial experiences for broadcast news production, from small iterative improvements to long‑term vision.

  • Create information architecture diagrams, experience journeys, user flows, wireframes, design mockups and interactive, AI‑powered prototypes to effectively conceptualize product features.

  • Conduct regular user research sessions with editorial users.

  • Perform usability tests and draw insights to make informed recommendations.

  • Create, contribute, and maintain tokens and components for our design system.

  • Champion our design principles, design systems and product roadmap, and serve our editorial teams’ needs.

  • Play a role in shaping the future of CNN's publishing platform by collaborating with stakeholders and team members to brainstorm, envision, and validate new features and functionalities.

Qualifications & Experience
  • 8+ years as a product designer, with at least 2 recent years in content/media management systems and/or productivity tooling work.

  • A mastery of Figma, including variables, components, styles, and shared libraries.

  • AI prototyping expertise using Cursor, Figma Make, or similar tools.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proficiency in utilizing, creating and modifying design system components to create scalable, delightful user experiences.

  • Experience working within large‑scale or enterprise organizations, requiring patience and proactive communication along each step of the design process. Bonus points for experience in news/media.

  • A demonstrated ability to manage complex design challenges and a strong record of fostering cross‑functional collaboration and stakeholder alignment.

  • Mastery of and ability to guide others on best practices of user experience design, including usability principles, user research methodology, testing techniques (A/B, Multi‑Variant), design theory, and interaction design.

  • Bachelor's degree in design, human‑computer interaction (HCI), or equivalent professional experience.

  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
