Overview

The Hospital Medicine Division of Children’s National Hospital (CNH) has opportunities for Pediatric Hospitalists to join a dynamic team serving children in the Washington DC, Maryland, and Virginia (DMV) area. We care for patients at 6 hospitals across the region with flexibility to work at one or a combination of sites.

Sites include: Children's National Hospital, Washington, DC (ranked #5 in the nation and #1 in Newborn Care); Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, MD; Hospital for Sick Children, Washington, DC; Mary Washington Hospital, Fredericksburg, VA; Stafford Hospital, Stafford, VA; Virginia Hospital Center, Arlington, VA. Roles involve clinical coverage across services lines, teaching opportunities, and collaboration with learners, families, and multidisciplinary teams. Faculty appointment is available through George Washington University where applicable.

Applicants should have excellent communication and leadership skills, an interest in evidence-based care and process improvement, and enjoy working collaboratively with families and the healthcare team. Qualifications

Minimum Education – Medical Doctor (M.D.) from an accredited medical school (Required).

Minimum Work Experience – 0 years (Required).

Required Skills/Knowledge – Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment; knowledge of legal and ethical standards for medical care; ability to assess patient problems and develop a care plan; ability to discuss ethical concepts with patients and families; ability to supervise and train clinical professionals and students; ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards;

commitment to continuing medical education and remaining current in subspecialty; knowledge of complies with legal and ethical standards.

Required Licenses and Certifications – Fully licensed and credentialed attending physician at Children’s National Medical Center; board certified or eligible for board certification in primary specialty (Required); board certification in relevant secondary specialty (Preferred).

  • Commitment to World Class Care – Provide clinical services for patients ethically, professionally and timely; oversight of the medical care team; on-call services as determined by division leadership; family-centered care and clear communication with families and trainees; use of defined escalation policies; timely responses to team members and outside providers; clear communication of patient updates and expectations to trainees.
  • Commitment to Advocacy – Contribute scholarly effort to population-based pediatric health promotion; teach patients and families about treatment, prevention, and care enhancement; participate in health promotion and prevention programs; advocate for public policy that promotes pediatric health and well-being.
  • Commitment to Research – Conduct clinically relevant research; participate in manuscript reviews; publish in peer-reviewed journals; pursue grant applications; participate in research committees and related groups.
