Mentor, Summer College Immersion Program – Summer 2026

Program

Overview

Mentors supervise and provide an enriching and educational experience for a cohort of up to 25 high school students. The 3‑week Summer College Immersion Program (SCIP) is a scholarship program for high‑school students from partner schools across the country. The program provides a taste of the college experience with lectures, sample classes, off‑site visits, and team building.

Responsibilities
  • Complete online training and in‑person training sessions.
  • Learn about the program subject(s) to understand course material and better support the student experience.
  • Assist in the final planning stages of the program.
  • Plan and prepare discussion sections and team‑building activities.
  • Work with other Mentors and the Assistant Academic Director to develop hands‑on experiences.
  • Attend and engage in all program activities, including lectures, guest speakers, discussions, and off‑site visits.
  • Maintain daily event attendance records.
  • Provide daily academic and classroom support: leading check‑ins, discussion sections, assisting students with assignments, and projects.
  • Ensure students are aware of and engaged in daily activities.
  • Answer general inquiries and questions about schedules, policies, and procedures.
  • Build community and belonging among students and staff.
  • Create a safe and supportive academic environment for students.
  • Work collaboratively with residential staff to create an inclusive and welcoming environment.
  • Enforce university policies, procedures, and regulations for students.
  • Establish appropriate boundaries with students in compliance with the University’s Protection of Minors Policy.
  • Provide support to students dealing with personal concerns and challenges associated with adjusting to college.
  • Reflect with students on their learning processes and professional goals.
  • Report unsafe or concerning behavior, student conduct issues, and emergencies to appropriate parties.
  • Connect students to campus resources, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Schedule
  • Training Part I (Online):
    May 18 2026
  • Training Part II:
    June 2‑4 2026 or June 16‑18 2026
  • SCIP Session:
    July 5‑July 24 2026
Work Hours
  • Approximately 2‑5 hours per week before the first program launch.
  • Approximately 40‑55 hours per week while the program runs.
  • Some evening, weekend, and overtime hours may be required once programs begin (not to exceed 20 hours per week).
Terms & Conditions
  • Mentors are designated for the spring and summer 2026 term with employment from May 18 through August 8 2026.
  • Mentors are full‑time and cannot hold simultaneous obligations during the time commitment.
  • Employment is at‑will and may be terminated by either party without notice or cause.
  • Failure to meet university standards may result in termination; terminated mentors forfeit housing and meal plan.
Compensation
  • Pay: $18.40 per hour.
  • Housing:
    University housing provided during assigned weeks and during off‑weeks between program assignments.
  • Meals:
    Meal plan provided during assigned weeks and during off‑weeks; boxed meals available during off‑site visits that overlap with meal times.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current or graduating undergraduate or graduate student, or recently graduated.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Suite, and Zoom.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current or graduating Georgetown University student.
  • SCIP alumnus.
  • Experience in an educational setting.
  • Experience working with faculty.
  • Experience working with high‑school students.
  • Supervisory or leadership experience.
  • Institutional knowledge of Georgetown University.
