Position Overview: As a Learning Support Teacher at our dynamic Chinese immersion school, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring that children with disabilities and additional learning needs receive the support they deserve. You’ll work collaboratively to design learning experiences that meet each child’s strengths, providing direct instruction and working closely with general education teachers to create an inclusive, engaging, and supportive learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, distribute, and maintain IEP snapshots for all students with disabilities.
  • Adhere to Washington Yu Ying’s inclusion model of instruction in the early years.
  • Utilize various co‑teaching models of instruction (lead, support, station, parallel, alternative, team teaching, pull‑out, resource).
  • Support, implement, and monitor classroom behavior and academic expectations.
  • Maintain positive communications with parents to partner successfully with the school.
  • Interpret formal and informal classroom‑based assessments to make instructional decisions.
  • Collect data on student performance to improve outcomes and direct instruction.
  • Administer and interpret appropriate formal assessments.
  • Select and adapt materials to assist students with disabilities to access the general education curriculum.
  • Provide additional instruction and support to students outside of content areas to achieve school‑wide goals and address student needs.
  • Provide proof of Modified Instruction in the form of accommodations, modifications, or resource room as mandated by students’ IEPs.
  • Manage and develop students’ quarterly IEP progress reports and deliver to parents/guardians.
  • Review evaluation information (psychological, clinical, educational) prior to MDT meetings.
  • Develop and monitor student goal progress on regular timelines, including assessments, evaluations, IEPs, 504s, and re‑evaluations.
  • Plan curriculum and create lesson plans incorporating the needs of all students.
  • Implement grade‑appropriate IB PYP curriculum in Reading, Writing, Social Studies, Math, and Science.
  • Plan and deliver transdisciplinary units that integrate skills learning within the IB framework.
  • Ensure conceptual understanding to support students in developing, extending, and transferring ideas across contexts.
  • Utilize current IB resources and guidance, reviewing and refining the English program based on IB expectations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design, plan, assess, and moderate learning experiences within the IB program.
  • Use local and global contexts to establish relevance and authenticity in English learning experiences.
  • Promote effective relationships and purposeful collaboration among teachers to create a positive, dynamic learning community.
  • Maintain active supervision of students at all times, ensuring safety, monitoring transitions, and handling injuries promptly.
  • Support and promote the IB mission and learner profile by modeling IB values and reinforcing internationally minded practices.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (required) or higher in Special Education or related field preferred.
  • Certification in Special Education preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience teaching General Education and/or Special Education.
  • Proficiency in Mandarin language preferred.
  • Commitment to supporting students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of learning theory, differentiated instruction, developmental reading, child development, applied behavior analysis, and assessment.
  • Solid knowledge of compliance requirements related to Special Education.
