Overview
Assistant Registrar, Records & Registration at Howard University. The role focuses on the interpretation and application of student records policies, grade processing, registration functions, and the overall accuracy and integrity of academic records for all students. It serves as a primary contact point for student records inquiries, transfer credit evaluation and processing, enrollment, and registration. The position emphasizes service, efficiency, and the use of technology to streamline records and transfer credit functions within the Office of the Registrar.
Responsibilities- Assist in operational functions related to enrollment and registration, including registration permissions, overrides, waitlists, and batch registration.
- Collect, record, maintain, and report academic records in compliance with FERPA and university best practices (enrollment data, athletic eligibility, completion data).
- Manage transfer credit evaluation and processing using AACRAO transfer credit best practices.
- Monitor progress toward degree completion and compliance for student athletes in accordance with NCAA, MEAC, and University rules.
- Produce academic standing and Dean’s List reports for review by the Provost’s Office and various schools and colleges.
- Oversee the grade reporting process (requests, changes of grades, and incomplete grades).
- Supervise organization of archived records and transcripts.
- Supervise and ensure accurate reporting of enrollment/degree verification processing for student insurance needs, student loan deferment documents, and National Student Clearinghouse requests.
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems with student records activities.
- Develop and deliver point-of-use training to faculty and academic unit staff.
- Supervise the management of the Office of the Registrar email account.
- Experience with complex student information systems, course registration, curriculum and enrollment planning software (e.g., Banner, Colleague, Workday).
- Understanding of administrative registration matters across higher education.
- Strong understanding of best practices in student registration and records; awareness of the Registrar’s role in strategic enrollment management and student success.
- Ability to analyze and interpret academic records and make independent decisions in accordance with Howard University policy.
- Ability to manage and adhere to tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Commitment to high standards of professionalism and customer service to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
- Detail-oriented, compliance-focused, with accountability and follow-through.
- Effective communication across a diverse community.
- Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills for data management.
Bachelor’s degree required;
Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of 3 years of managerial experience in a registrar’s office or closely related enrollment. Previous management experience in a higher education institution.
Expected Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000
