Position Summary

As the Vice President of Energy Policy you will organize and direct programs and activities related to public policy issues affecting data center energy infrastructure, including regulatory matters, grid interconnection, and energy generation. You will lead the development and advancement of ITI's policy and strategy on energy infrastructure policy priorities that support the current demand, growth, and operation of data centers critical to the tech industry's AI and cloud computing investments.

The primary objective of the position is to work with ITI member companies to develop and advocate positions on policies, legislation, and regulation governing energy infrastructure development, utility procurement, and power supply for technology facilities. You will be involved with work that crosses all engaged branches of government at both the federal and state levels, coordinating with public utility commissions, grid operators, and other energy stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Establishing and maintaining ITI's position as the leading voice of the tech industry on energy infrastructure policy issues affecting data center development and operations.
  • Leading development of industry consensus policy positions on initiatives, legislation, and regulation related to power generation, transmission, distribution, energy storage, and other related topics for the technology industry.
  • Developing, evolving, and executing a comprehensive energy policy strategy that addresses relevant regulatory frameworks, grid interconnection, power procurement, transmission, energy generation, and other related topics.
  • Leading ITI committees and working groups focused on energy infrastructure and data center development.
  • Tracking, analyzing, and communicating on key federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies impacting energy infrastructure for data centers, including utility commission proceedings, grid operator policies, etc.
  • Engaging with utilities, public utility commissions, grid operators, energy regulators, and other stakeholders and policymakers to advance ITI member priorities consistent with ITI’s energy policy strategy.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key energy policy stakeholders in the executive branch, including FERC, DOE, and others. In concert with ITI government relations, fostering productive engagement with relevant Members, Senators and Congressional committees.
  • Collaborating with ITI teams across policy areas, including sustainability, public sector, trade and government relations, to ensure alignment of energy policy positions with broader ITI priorities.
  • Acting as a liaison across industry coalitions and representing the tech sector in energy policy activities with other trade associations and stakeholder groups.
  • Promoting ITI and its member companies through written and oral presentations at public and exclusive industry forums, and with energy stakeholders and policymakers.
  • Serving as a thought leader and subject matter expert on energy policy matters, including through external appearances, publications, and media engagement.
  • Supervising other ITI personnel assigned to work on energy infrastructure policy matters.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, energy policy, public policy, business, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of experience in energy policy, utility regulation, or power infrastructure development.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior employees preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of utility regulatory frameworks, grid interconnection processes, power procurement.
  • Working knowledge of power infrastructure development, including generation, transmission, distribution, and energy storage technologies.
  • Experience working with public utility commissions, FERC, regional transmission organizations, or electric utilities.
  • Well-respected and experienced with a network of energy policy and regulatory contacts.

Pay range: $200,000 – 210,000
