Spectrum/ Surveillance Engineer
The Spectrum / Surveillance Engineer provides technical expertise supporting the planning, analysis, integration, and sustainment of aviation surveillance and spectrum-dependent systems. This role supports FAA programs by ensuring the reliable, secure, and efficient use of radio frequency (RF) spectrum and surveillance technologies critical to National Airspace System (NAS) operations.
The engineer works with program management, engineering, and operational stakeholders to evaluate system performance, assess spectrum impacts, and support modernization initiatives involving surveillance, communications, and navigation systems.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide engineering support for aviation spectrum and surveillance systems
- Analyze RF spectrum usage, interference risks, and system compatibility
- Support surveillance systems such as radar, ADS-B, multilateration, and related technologies
- Assist with requirements analysis, system design, integration, and testing activities
- Evaluate system changes and modernization efforts for operational and spectrum impacts
Support spectrum coordination, planning, and documentation activities - Analyze performance data and recommend technical improvements or mitigations
- Support compliance with FAA policies, standards, and regulatory requirements
- Collaborate with FAA stakeholders, engineers, analysts, and program managers
- Experience in spectrum engineering, surveillance systems, or RF-related engineering disciplines
- Knowledge of aviation surveillance technologies and RF principles
- Ability to apply engineering methods to complex, mission-critical systems
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills
- Degree is required
- Experience supporting FAA or aviation programs
- Familiarity with FAA surveillance systems, radar operations, or NAS infrastructure
- Experience with system lifecycle activities including requirements, testing, and implementation
- Experience working in government or regulated environments
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance (or equivalent)
