An Environmental Permit Coordinator supports all aspects of the permitting process, ensuring environmental compliance across federal, state, and local levels. They work closely with project teams, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure that permit conditions are relayed, understood, and adhered to. They may write permits, complete inspections, prepare submittals, and meet with regulators on a regular basis.

Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Maintain and promote a strong health, safety, environment, and quality (HSEQ) culture for all employees, vendors, subcontractors, and customers to comply with HSEQ policies, procedures, regulations, and continual improvement objectives. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and risks with a commitment to correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe or nonconforming actions or conditions.
  • Assist with environmental permit applications, reviews, and approvals.
  • Support communication and serve as liaison between the project team, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Track and document permit compliance, inspections, and communications.
  • Provide site inspections throughout project activities to ensure environmental compliance.
  • Provide training and briefings for project team with respect to permit compliance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What it takes
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
  • Familiarity with federal and Washington D.C. permitting agencies
  • 1+ years of experience in the utility construction industry (pipeline, sewer, gas, etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Be highly organized with excellent attention to detail and follow-up.
  • Work independently and be self motivated.
Desired qualifications
  • Experience providing environmental inspection on construction sites.
  • Experience reading and evaluating construction plans and specifications.
