Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction (Washington DC - Baltimore)

Metric Geo is partnering with a leading heavy civil contractor in Washington DC - Baltimore to hire an experienced Estimator to support continued growth across major earthwork, utility, site development, and roadway projects statewide.

This is a long-term, full-time role with a stable and well-respected contractor that self-performs the majority of its work. The company is known for a strong pipeline of DOT, municipal, and private site development projects, excellent leadership, and a culture that values collaboration and professional development.

  • Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for heavy civil projects including:
  • Earthwork and mass grading
  • Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)
  • Roadway & highway construction
  • Site development for commercial and industrial projects
  • Review project plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and addenda to determine scope.
  • Perform detailed quantity takeoffs using estimating and takeoff software.
  • Solicit, evaluate, and negotiate vendor and subcontractor pricing.
  • Develop clear and comprehensive cost structures
    , including materials, labor, equipment, production rates, and risk factors.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as needed.
  • Partner with project management and field operations to support bid strategies and value engineering
    .
  • Transition awarded bids into executed projects and assist with estimating-to-operations handoff.
  • Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
  • 5–10 years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Strong understanding of site development, grading, utilities, and roadway scopes.
  • Proficiency in HCSS Heavy Bid, Agtek, Bluebeam, or similar software (preferred but not required).
  • Ability to read and interpret civil engineering drawings, specs, and geotechnical reports.
  • Strong math, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work independently on multiple estimates and deadlines.
  • Field experience (Superintendent, Project Engineer, or Project Manager) is a strong plus
