Job Description
AECOM's Urbanism + Planning practice is seeking a creative and enthusiastic Urban Planning Intern to join our team in Washington, DC.
Internships at AECOM offer students in undergraduate and graduate programs the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in engineering, design, and infrastructure projects that make a real-world impact. Interns work with cutting-edge technology, learn industry best practices, and collaborate with experienced professionals in a globally recognized firm. The program fosters both technical and professional skill development while providing networking opportunities that can enhance future career prospects.

The intern will serve on multi-disciplinary planning efforts in the DC region's most treasured places, from national parks to diverse urban neighborhoods. As part of a highly collaborative team of urban designers, environmental planners, engineers, and economists, the intern will develop planning documents and facilitate stakeholder engagement efforts to help municipal, federal, and private sector clients advance transformational projects in the region.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
* Support technical writing, mapping, and graphics for plans focused on the development of neighborhood revitalization plans, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) plans, master plans, and comprehensive plans.
* Support site analyses, land use and zoning evaluations, urban design studies, and alternative assessments.
* Support the development of presentations and stakeholder engagement activities with agencies and public audiences.
* Organize and track administrative project tasks like meeting minutes, action items, and scheduling needs.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
* Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Urban and Regional Planning or related field and must have completed at least 2 years of study. Candidates who have graduated with a Bachelor's degree and plan to continue with the Master's degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor's degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience using ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
* Experience writing technical documents or planning reports for public audiences.
* Adept at developing creative and innovative graphics, maps, and document layouts.
* Efficient and organized with a high level of attention to detail.
* Excellent time management skills and ability to balance priorities.

* This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Washington, DC. The selected candidate must be available to work in Washington, DC on a scheduled basis.
