Overview

The AV Engineer I is a member of the Georgetown University Capitol Campus Information Systems Technology Audiovisual Engineering group. This position oversees the technical operation and maintenance of all audiovisual systems supported by the department at the Capitol Campus, including classrooms and conference rooms and other supported spaces. The position also oversees the exploration, research, inventory, installation, and integration of equipment and services in department‑supported facilities.

Responsibilities

The incumbent manages the day‑to‑day operation and maintenance of audiovisual equipment, installs and configures new systems, conducts research into emerging technologies, and manages small projects. The role requires flexible scheduling, including overtime, evenings, and weekends as needed.

Work Interactions

The AV Engineer I reports to the Director of Audio Visual Engineering and engages with senior administrators, staff, faculty, students, and vendors. The role requires superior communication skills to interact with nationally and internationally recognized VIP guests, high‑level university administration and alumni, national and local press, and daily interactions with faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements And Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or four years of audiovisual experience, preferably from an educational environment.
  • Ability to multitask, often working under stress to complete tasks that require complex setup and operation.
  • Crestron Commercial Technician/Field Engineer Certification.
  • Tesira

    FORTÉ Certification.
  • Daily requirement to move items up to 10 lbs; frequently required to move up to 50 lbs; occasionally tasks requiring up to 100 lbs, and work from ladders and scaffolding.
  • Must have working knowledge of safety equipment: gloves, eye and ear protection, etc.
Pay Range

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position is: US $19.20 – $28.70 per hour. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.

Work Mode Designation

This position is designated as on‑campus. Work mode designations are reviewed regularly to meet the University’s evolving needs.
