OverviewThis position will serve as a civil engineer responsible for assisting US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM) in the development and execution of a large facilities portfolio in support of CBP’s front‑line business partners. Work will involve providing engineering guidance and input to new capital projects, smaller maintenance and repair (M&R) projects, onsite issues and activities, and reviewing the work of other consultants and contractors.
The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, a demonstrated ability to deliver “innovative solutions,” and excellent creative problem‑solving ability.
- Supports OFAM’s director of Technical Services and other TS managers as a technical advisor and subject matter expert for civil engineering matters.
- Responsible for reviewing engineering designs, proposed installations, and in‑place systems, infrastructure and facilities and providing associated recommendations.
- Assists with planning, design review and construction oversight of OFAM’s projects, both large capital projects and smaller M&R projects.
- Supports the development and preparation of SOWs and cost estimates related to proposed engineering solutions; reviews the same from other stakeholders.
- Interacts with other stakeholders, notably staff within OFAM (both HQ and in the field), business partners (USBP, OFO, AMO), and other consultants and contractors.
- Serves as a program expert and spokesperson for technical engineering and construction related issues with responsibility to present, explain, and defend to higher‑level officials in CBP, DHS, and other government agencies and interested public groups.
- Collaborates with service providers, including GSA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) throughout the project life cycles.
- Maintains an ongoing, high‑paced, book of work of engineering assignments and must maintain and report status on an ongoing list of assigned work.
- Prepares and delivers reports, briefings, and other communication materials to share outcomes and results of various engineering efforts.
- 4+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- A current Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint.
- Ability to communicate clearly with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively solve problems.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
- Available for approximately 20% travel.
Ability to pass a government background investigation, including financial, criminal, residential, educational, foreign affiliation, prohibited substance use, and employment checks.
Target salary range: $108,000 - $186,000.
