We are seeking a Senior Manager, High Voltage Engineering to provide technical leadership and execution oversight across utility-scale renewable energy projects, battery storage systems, and industrial infrastructure developments.

About the Role

This role serves as a subject matter expert in high‑voltage substations and interconnection facilities, ensuring engineering decisions are consistently aligned, managing external consultants and EPC contractors, and driving innovative solutions for grid interconnection challenges. The ideal candidate will combine deep technical expertise in HV substation design with strong project execution capabilities, working collaboratively across development, procurement, and construction teams to deliver safe, reliable, and cost‑effective electrical infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • High Voltage Project Execution
  • Develop HV work scopes and technical contract exhibits for substations and interconnection facilities
  • Manage engineering consultants and EPC contractors to produce construction‑ready drawings and supporting documentation
  • Oversee technical project due diligence and design reviews across multiple concurrent projects
  • Coordinate feedback from internal stakeholders and owner's engineering consultants
  • Support commissioning activities and resolve technical issues at operating facilities
  • Conduct site visits and quality assurance/quality control checks as needed
  • High Voltage Project Development
  • Develop HV strategies for substations and interconnection facilities across solar, battery storage, and industrial projects
  • Provide high‑level conceptual designs and guide consultants to detailed engineering solutions
  • Support budget, schedule, and technical inputs for development and acquisition projects
  • Value engineer HV designs to optimize reliability and cost efficiency
  • Develop and implement technical solutions to address region‑specific interconnection requirements
  • Write and review specifications for high‑voltage equipment and systems
  • Technical Leadership & Innovation
  • Contribute to process improvement initiatives for safe, high‑quality project delivery
  • Stay current on HV technology trends, emerging vendor solutions, and industry best practices
  • Collaborate closely with development, procurement, and project execution teams
  • Mentor future team members as the HV engineering group grows
Qualifications
  • Required
  • Experience:

    10+ years in HV substation and/or transmission line design and/or construction
  • Project Management: 10+ years of project management, consulting, or project engineering experience
  • Technical Expertise:
    True subject matter expertise in high‑voltage substations and interconnection systems
  • Consultant Management:
    Proven experience managing third‑party consultants, vendors, and internal stakeholders
  • Electrical Systems Knowledge:
    Broad understanding of plant‑level electrical design to inform HV decisions
  • Software:
    Proficient with MS Office Suite; experience with Procore or similar project management platforms preferred
  • Work Location:

    Ability to work in office (Western U.S. location) a minimum of 3 days per week
  • Travel:
    Ability to travel up to 25%
  • Authorization:
    Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship
  • Preferred
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • Experience across multiple renewable energy technologies (solar PV, BESS, conventional generation)
  • Familiarity with ISO/RTO interconnection processes and requirements
