Metering Protocols

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Industrial Metering Engineer to lead the design, specification, and deployment of utilities metering solutions across multiple global sites. In this role, you will perform detailed technical assessments, design installation concepts, define system architecture, and ensure reliable integration of metering systems into the company’s OT/IT environment. Your work will directly support energy transparency, sustainability targets, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities
  • Site Assessment & Engineering Design:
Conduct on‑site technical assessments to evaluate infrastructure and feasibility for installing electricity, gas, diesel, water, and wastewater meters—considering mechanical, electrical, and civil constraints, including retrofit complexity, limited access, or challenging pipe runs.
  • Review and interpret engineering documentation (process flow diagrams, P&IDs, electrical single‑line diagrams) to identify optimal meter selection, sizing, and installation points.
  • Recommend metering solutions consistent with the company’s engineering standards, addressing accuracy class, communication protocol, fluid characteristics, hazardous area classification, and installation complexity.
  • Develop metering connectivity architecture integrating with PLCs, industrial gateways, SCADA platforms, and Schneider PME.
  • Work with OT/IT and site engineering teams to define network architecture, data flow requirements, and adherence to cybersecurity and OT boundary controls.
  • Provide technical guidance to OEMs, suppliers, and installation contractors during procurement, installation, commissioning, and verification.
  • Produce and maintain detailed documentation of “as‑is” and “to‑be” metering configurations, ensuring traceability of design decisions, changes, and lessons learned.
Skills & Experience
  • Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Automation, or Control Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in industrial utilities metering (electricity, gas, steam, water, wastewater) within pharmaceutical, advanced manufacturing, or other complex industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of flow measurement principles and metering technologies.
  • Solid knowledge of industrial communication protocols (Modbus TCP/RTU, Ethernet/IP, RS‑485, pulse, analog).
  • Hands‑on familiarity with PLCs, industrial gateways, SCADA platforms, and PME integration.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and develop structured technical documentation.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage effectively with cross‑functional stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area equipment fundamentals (ATEX/IECEx/CSA).
  • Experience delivering global or multi‑site engineering projects and applying international standards.
  • Competence in analyzing large datasets for energy data verification and performance validation.
  • Site Assessment Reports with metering gap analysis.
  • Recommended Meter Specification Packages and connectivity architecture.
  • Meter layout drawings, maintenance guidance, and calibration documentation.
  • Bill of Materials (BoM) detailing scope and procurement requirements.
  • Technical validation input for cost estimation, vendor proposals, and system commissioning.
