Environmental Engineer
Engineering Intern
Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Building Maintenance and the Sustainability Manager, this position will support and help advance sustainability initiatives across the District. The position offers hands-on experience in energy management and decarbonization planning for the second largest school district in Wisconsin.
This internship is expected to start in June through August 15, 2026.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:
- Knowledge of sustainability, energy systems, environmental science, policies or related areas
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
- Excellent analytical and problem solving abilities
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal
- Willingness to travel to different MMSD locations
- Follow principles and practices that promote and advance anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion
Required Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in sustainability, environmental science, engineering or related field
- Experience or coursework in energy analysis, climate action planning, or building systems
- Experience utilizing tools and or software such as Excel, Word, Google, Bluebeam, Auto Cad
- Must have a valid drivers license
Physical Requirements:
Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury. This position requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally and may involve walking, sitting, stooping or reaching. Manual dexterity is necessary for completing general tasks while operating office equipment. This position may require being stationary for extended periods of time.
Ability to perform work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year, including in inclement weather, spaces without air conditioning, and areas where temperatures may be uncomfortable or fluctuate rapidly.
