We are currently searching for an entry/midlevel Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer in Training (E.I.) to support our Mid Atlantic Region located in Springfield, VA. To be considered for this position, applicants must have, at minimum, a Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering.
What You'll Be Doing- Assists with various assignments for VDOT and local municipalities
- Performs engineering deliverables associated with drainage and roadway infrastructure improvements
- Assists and prepares project plans using the latest CADD software including but not limited to Micro Station, Open Roads, Civil3D, and/or AutoCADD, among others
- Contributes to the preparation and/or modification of engineering reports and calculations for a wide variety of projects
- Works with senior staff to develop plans and calculations for transportation and drainage related projects
- Performs the design of stormwater management facilities to meet water quality and quantity requirements
- Prepares and assists in the preparation of project construction quantities, details, cost estimates and the preparation of project specifications
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Bachelor's of Science in Civil Engineering
- EIT (E.I) Certification is desired (or the commitment to acquire it within 1-year)
- 1 - 4 years of engineering experience
- Experience with (or strong willingness to learn) Micro Station, Open Roads, Geopak, Civil3D, StormCAD, ORD, HEC-RAS, GIS and/or SUDA software (among other software)
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening to ensure a safe and productive work environment. Volkert adheres to federal guidelines, which may include testing for substances such as marijuana. Please note that federal regulations may differ from state-specific guidelines
- Valid driver's license and a satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR)
- Previous VDOT/Municipal experience is a plus
- Prior knowledge of VDOT standards is plus
