, creating meaningful career pathways for veterans, military spouses, and professionals who share our passion for advancing technology and strengthening the missions we serve.

Be part of a historic wave of VA hospital modernization.

We're seeking a Mechanical Engineer with a Plumbing Specialization (CM-MP) to support one of the most active construction programs at the Washington, DC VA Medical Center — a facility currently undergoing major infrastructure upgrades as part of VA's largest-ever single-year modernization investment. Ongoing work at this campus includes the conversion of an inpatient unit into a new 28-bed ICU/Ventilator Unit, rooftop mechanical system upgrades, and coordinated improvements across HVAC, electrical, and plumbing infrastructure — all while keeping a live, occupied hospital fully operational for the veterans it serves.

This is hands‑on, high‑visibility work: you'll be engaged in design and construction phases for complex healthcare renovation projects, not routine maintenance. You'll help shape how a major VA medical center adapts its physical plant to modern clinical standards, working alongside a construction management team responsible for pre‑design, design, procurement, and construction phase services.

What You’ll Do
  • Provide plumbing engineering expertise across design and construction phases of active healthcare renovation projects
  • Review and provide professional recommendations on scope documents, submittals, and RFIs
  • Support QA/QC efforts, identifying project risks, code compliance issues, and constructability concerns
  • Coordinate with mechanical contractors and multidisciplinary teams to keep projects moving in a live hospital environment
  • Apply local, state, and federal jurisdictional codes to healthcare‑specific plumbing and MEP systems
  • Help ensure renovation work meets the safety, compliance, and continuity‑of‑care standards required in an occupied VA medical facility
Benefits
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life Insurance
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with matching
  • Paid Time Off
  • Paid Federal Holidays
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • 6+ years of professional experience in design and construction, with a specialization in plumbing systems — ideally in commercial, institutional, or healthcare settings
  • Experience with mechanical contractors and commercial/HVAC plumbing systems
  • Strong grasp of building codes, permitting, and construction materials/methods
  • Comfort reviewing design drawings and providing constructability recommendations
  • Healthcare facility construction/renovation experience is a plus
Required
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Eligibility to obtain a Public Trust Clearance and VA PIV badge

$160,000 - $170,000 a year

$160,000–$170,000/year, commensurate with experience, plus health/dental/vision insurance, life insurance, 401(k) with matching, PTO, and paid federal holidays.
