Position: NRL Engineering Technician (ESI 0194)

Job Responsibilities

This position supports the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) Advanced Techniques Branch, Digital Technologies Section of the Tactical Electronic Warfare Division (TEWD). Responsibilities include providing engineering support, maintenance, and testing services necessary to conduct EW Simulation research, development, test, and evaluation (RDTandE). Duties involve assisting in the electrical and mechanical design, development, operation, and maintenance of Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) and Radio Frequency (RF) missile simulators and related equipment.

Other tasks may involve interpreting and generating engineering data, design specifications, schematics, and installation drawings to support design, modification, and installation of airborne and land-based simulators and data collection devices. Functions also include conducting engineering analysis and performance evaluations of EW systems. Some travel will be required. May be tasked to perform additional duties on an as-needed basis. Position located at Naval Research Laboratory, Washington DC.

May work at other locations, to include NRL facilities, field sites, and aboard commercial or military RDTandE aircraft during test flight events. Requisition ESI 0194.

Qualifications And Requirements
  • Position requires an Associate Degree from a technical training school. Allowable Substitution: completion of a military technical training school in electronics or avionics.
  • Must have ten (10) years of experience in the design, fabrication, and installation of EW systems and related electrical wiring, cables, harnesses, connectors, and fiber optic interfaces, as well as troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing circuit boards and their sub-components on military or commercial aircraft.
  • Must have ten (10) years of experience operating IR missile simulators in field platforms, collecting simulator data, and subsequently reducing and analyzing the data.
  • Must have five (5) years of experience with CAD programs and engineering formulae.
  • Qualified to operate Ground Support Equipment (GSE), i.e., forklift, ordnance truck, transporters, etc.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and possess a Top-Secret level DoD security clearance.
  • Must be aeronautically adapted, to include being free from motion sickness and claustrophobia, while operating airborne EW simulator systems during test flight events.
  • U.S. military veterans with Electronics Technician or Aviation Electronics Technician experience are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Salary range: $100k to $135k, depending upon experience and skillsets
