Position: Industrial Engineer / Operations Research Analyst (TFMEP)

Traffic Flow Management Enhancement Program (TFMEP) Industrial Engineer

LS Technologies, a Tetra Tech Company, is seeking a Traffic Flow Management Enhancement Program (TFMEP) Industrial Engineer responsible for analyzing and monitoring all phases of TFMEP operations to support the evolution of strategic deconfliction processes and capabilities. This role provides engineering and operations research support to develop, document, and improve repeatable TFMEP processes and to deliver strategic deconfliction outputs to FAA personnel and facilities as directed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze and monitor all phases of TFMEP operations.
  • Support process improvement opportunities for the evolution of strategic deconfliction processes and capabilities.
  • Provide output of the strategic deconfliction plan to FAA and facilities personnel, as appropriate and directed by the agency.
  • Document overall strategy or direction on initiative implementation in the strategy critique or the TFMS National Traffic Management Log.
  • Integrate post-event analysis findings into strategic deconfliction processes and capability improvements.
  • Establish, execute, and refine repeatable operational processes in support of TFMEP Center activities.
  • Collaborate with FAA management, NAS stakeholders, and other TFMEP operational staff.
  • Support the development and execution of TFMEP capability activities at the TFMEP Control Center.
  • Contribute engineering and operations research expertise to improve NAS operational efficiency.
  • Assist in documenting lessons learned and recommended process improvement opportunities.

Education and qualifications required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, computer science, mathematics, or related specialty with 15 years of experience is required.
  • Significant engineering and operations research expertise.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, operational analysis, or system optimization.
  • Knowledge of strategic deconfliction, traffic flow management, or related NAS operations.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and translate findings into actionable process improvements.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for documentation and coordination with FAA stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a highly collaborative, mission-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with operational logs, critiques, and formal documentation practices.
  • Ability to support continuous operations in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Work requirements:

  • Work location:

    FAA Headquarters and/or the DOT TFMEP Control Center (SCC).
  • Work Hours:

    Onsite 5 days per week. 24/7 Operations support may be required.
  • Typical shift windows include:
    • Morning: 0600–1400 or 0700–1500
    • Evening: 1400–2200 or 1500–2300
    • Overnight: 2200–0600
  • Overnight coverage may be adjusted based on program needs.
  • Travel: 0%
  • Physical requirements:
    • Work is performed in an operations room/control center environment.
    • Extended Computer Use:
      Regular and prolonged periods of working at a computer terminal.
    • Lifting and Carrying:
      Occasional lifting of equipment and materials weighing up to 50 pounds may be required during installations or maintenance.
    • Mobility:
      Ability to move around the office environment to access computer hardware, networking equipment, and server rooms.
    • Dexterity:
      Manual dexterity and visual acuity to operate computer equipment, troubleshoot issues, and perform tasks requiring precision.
    • Sitting/Standing:
      Both prolonged sitting and occasional standing may be required for troubleshooting and attending to system issues.
  • Background check:
    Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust.
