The successful candidate will provide strategic and technical analysis to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), with a focus on managing human factors research, engineering, and technology integration opportunities. Strategic needs will be identified through systems and human factors engineering analyses of future concepts, FAA rules/guidance, and interactions with FAA Program stakeholders. Validated opportunities will be used to support the development of both tactical and long-term research plans.

The successful candidate will be expected to clearly present work products to team members, clients, and stakeholders.

Potential activities for this position include:

  • Performing systems engineering and human factors analyses of National Airspace System (NAS) components, flight deck enablers, planned air traffic improvements
  • Leading requirement elicitation sessions with flight deck, air traffic, and maintenance stakeholders
  • Supporting the execution of gap analyses
  • Formulating and prioritizing strategic research plans to close validated gaps
  • Developing cross-team and cross-program dependencies and relationships
  • Implementing efficient program management tools and processes
  • Developing white papers, meeting minutes, and presentations for technical and non-technical stakeholders

This full-time Systems Engineer | Aviation role is on-site in Washington, DC. The role involves providing technical support for operational air traffic and flight deck environments, collaborating on human-centered system improvements, and assisting with testing, validation, and risk mitigation activities. The Systems Engineer will also contribute to technical reports, presentations, and client deliverables to support FAA and other aviation-related projects.

Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Human Factors, Aviation Science, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated ability to identify research needs and develop research objectives and plans to fulfill identified needs
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to actively collaborate within cross-functional teams
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills for presenting technical work products
  • Candidate must be able to successfully complete a government security investigation
  • US citizenship or permanent residence
Desired Attributes
  • Advanced degree in Human Factors, Engineering, Psychology, or Aviation-related discipline
  • Functional understanding of general aviation, commercial aviation, and air traffic control
  • Experience working directly with FAA concepts and stakeholders
  • Experience working with federal regulations and policies
