Senior Project Accountant

The Senior Project Accountant supports the financial management of assigned projects by maintaining accurate cost records, supporting forecasting efforts, and ensuring billing and payment activity aligns with contractual and financial requirements.

Primary Functions

• Monitor overall project financial performance by maintaining cost reports, tracking commitments, and reviewing project expenditures.
• Collaborate with project leadership to support financial forecasting and provide visibility into budget performance and cost trends.
• Support work-in-progress (WIP) reporting and revenue tracking tied to project completion status.
• Ensure subcontractor and vendor invoices are properly reviewed, validated, and recorded within project financials.
• Analyze project financial data to identify discrepancies, cost overruns, or potential financial exposure.
• Maintain compliance with contract terms by supporting progress billing and reviewing the financial impact of change orders or contract modifications.
• Produce recurring financial summaries, including cost projections and budget variance reporting.
• Support the integrity of financial records by ensuring transactions are properly coded and aligned with internal accounting standards.

Required Background

• Proven experience supporting financial operations within project-driven or job cost environments.
• Strong working knowledge of cost tracking, forecasting, WIP reporting, and project-based financial reporting.
• Experience supporting progress billing or percentage-of-completion accounting methodologies preferred.
• Advanced proficiency in Excel and experience working within accounting or project-based ERP systems.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify and resolve financial discrepancies.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline preferred.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant project accounting experience.
• Prior exposure to construction or similar project-based industries preferred.
