This position is responsible for completing the various reconciliations that keep the University’s primary financial ledgers (currently Banner) in balance with the State’s Rstars accounting system and other subsystems. The role also assists with other reconciliations, reporting, audits, and may support areas such as WEAA and Athletics.
Duties & Responsibilities- Perform reconciliations between the University’s financial ledgers and the Rstars financial totals and/or the various subsystems periodically, typically monthly. As part of these periodic reconciliations, monitor, analyze, and examine the systems on a daily basis.
- Develop accounting procedures and research information necessary in the reconciliation process. Review inter-campus expenditure charge-backs/reclassifications regularly.
- Review the daily Banner and Rstars system’s financial activity. As part of these functions:
1) clear the suspended batches,
2) when necessary, notify the pertinent MSU personnel of Rstars activity,
3) work with the various areas on the numerous system interfaces. Heavily assist in the preparation of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles-based financial statements for the University and respond to audit inquiries from internal and external auditors. - Initiate the Banner and Rstars journal entries to pay the other State agencies and/or to adjust the balances as needed.
- Other duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications Education
The successful candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited college or university.
ExperienceAt least five years of professional accounting experience is required.
Other Preferences for Consideration- Master’s degree in Accounting, possessing or working toward CPA.
- Higher education or government agency accounting experience.
- Experience with higher education or non-profit is highly desired.
- Knowledge of Banner Finance and RSTARS is a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written skills.
- Ability to analyze financial data and identify discrepancies
- Ability to identify trend analysis and variance analysis
- High level of accuracy in financial reporting
- Handling sensitive financial information responsibly
- Ability to adjust to regulatory changes and system upgrades
