Responsibilities

Kforce has a client in Washington, DC that is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join their finance team. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in accounting, financial reporting, and compliance.

Summary:

As a Senior Accountant, you will manage day‑to‑day accounting activities, prepare financial statements, ensure accurate general ledger maintenance and assist with budgeting and forecasting. You will collaborate with cross‑functional teams and play a key role in ensuring the organization’s financial health and regulatory compliance.

  • Financial Reporting:
    Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP or applicable standards; ensure all reports are accurate, timely, and in compliance with company policies and external regulations.
  • General Ledger Maintenance:
    Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring proper accounting for all transactions and that entries are accurate and in compliance with accounting standards.
  • Reconciliation:
    Perform regular account reconciliations (bank, credit card, intercompany, etc.) and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Month‑End/Year‑End Closing:
    Lead the month‑end and year‑end closing processes, ensuring that all necessary entries are made and deadlines are met.
  • Internal Controls:
    Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure integrity of financial data and prevent fraud.
  • Tax Compliance:
    Assist with the preparation of tax returns (sales tax, VAT, income tax, etc.) and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal tax regulations.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:
    Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts; analyze variances between actual and budgeted results and provide recommendations for improvement.
Requirements
  • Financial Reporting & GAAP Knowledge – Strong experience preparing and reviewing financial statements in compliance with GAAP or applicable standards.
  • General Ledger Management – Proven ability to maintain accurate general ledger accounts and oversee accounting transactions.
  • Account Reconciliation – Expertise in performing and resolving bank, credit card, and intercompany reconciliations.
  • Month‑End & Year‑End Close – Hands‑on experience leading close processes and meeting strict reporting deadlines.
  • Internal Controls & Compliance – Ability to implement and maintain internal controls to ensure data integrity and regulatory compliance.
  • Tax Compliance Support – Knowledge of sales tax, VAT, and income tax preparation and compliance requirements.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting – Experience assisting with budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis.
  • Attention to Detail & Collaboration – Strong analytical skills with the ability to work cross‑functionally.

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors such as relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
