Key Responsibilities:
* Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and cash management
* Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close processes
* Prepare and review financial statements, schedules, and management reports
* Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper classification of expenses by program, fund, grant, and department
* Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in collaboration with leadership
* Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
* Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
* Lead annual audit preparation and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
* Oversee preparation of required filings (e.g., Form 990) in coordination with external advisors
* Ensure compliance with grant, donor, and restricted fund requirements
* Supervise and mentor accounting staff; provide training, performance feedback, and professional development
* Foster a collaborative, service-oriented finance team culture
* Establish clear workflows, approval processes, and accountability across finance operations
* Manage and optimize accounting systems and financial tools
* Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and transparency
* Support system upgrades or implementations related to accounting, budgeting, or reporting
* Partner with program, development, and operations teams to ensure financial alignment with organizational goals
* Provide financial guidance to leadership and department heads
* Support board finance and audit committees with financial materials and analysis
* Assist with financial planning and long-term sustainability initiatives
* CPA required
* 5+ years of nonprofit experience
* Minimum 2 years in a Controller level role
* 990 experience
* Strong Excel skill:
Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP's
