Controller, Finance & Banking, Financial Reporting

Responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and cash management
• Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year‑end financial close processes
• Prepare and review financial statements, schedules, and management reports
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure proper classification of expenses by program, fund, grant, and department
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in collaboration with leadership
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, nonprofit accounting standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations
• Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
• Lead annual audit preparation and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
• Oversee preparation of required filings (e.g., Form 990) in coordination with external advisors
• Ensure compliance with grant, donor, and restricted fund requirements
• Supervise and mentor accounting staff; provide training, performance feedback, and professional development
• Foster a collaborative, service‑oriented finance team culture
• Establish clear workflows, approval processes, and accountability across finance operations
• Manage and optimize accounting systems and financial tools
• Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and transparency
• Support system upgrades or implementations related to accounting, budgeting, or reporting
• Partner with program, development, and operations teams to ensure financial alignment with organizational goals
• Provide financial guidance to leadership and department heads
• Support board finance and audit committees with financial materials and analysis
• Assist with financial planning and long‑term sustainability initiatives

• CPA required
• 5+ years of nonprofit experience
• Minimum 2 years in a Controller level role
• 990 experience
• Strong Excel skill:
  Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs

The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.

We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
