The United States Capitol Police (USCP) safeguards the Congress, Members of Congress, employees, visitors, and Congressional buildings and grounds from crime, disruption, and terrorism. We protect and secure Congress so it can fulfill its constitutional and legislative responsibilities in a safe, secure and open environment.
Responsibilities- Serve as a Motor Unit Officer within the Special Operations Division, Operational Services Bureau, providing Police Motor Unit Services, motorcades and escorts, high visibility directed patrol, traffic safety initiatives and enforcement programs, ceremonial functions, and support services for the U.S. Congress, U.S. Capitol Grounds, and all areas and responsibilities directed by the United States Capitol Police.
- Accommodate short notice changes in shift and/or tour of duty based on operational needs; may be directed with little or no advance notice.
- Report for duty at various times throughout the 24-hour day as directed.
- Provide motorcade support and planning for Members of Congress.
- Provide motor officer support for functions such as special events, concerts, civil disturbance deployments, ceremonial events, funerals, and other directed assignments.
- Enforce all laws, traffic rules and regulations, and special directives as they pertain to the jurisdiction and authority of the USCP.
- Participate in specialized enforcement programs such as Smooth Operator and Click-it-or-Ticket; identify target zones for specialized traffic enforcement and develop initiatives to maintain safe roadways for the congressional community.
- Successfully complete Police Motor Instructor School and all other associated training when requested.

RequirementsMust be a current USCP Officer below the rank of Sergeant and have attained the rank of Private with Training. Must have successfully completed your probationary period by the closing date of this announcement. Must possess and maintain a valid REAL U.S. driver's license with Motorcycle Endorsement. Must successfully complete all required training. Must maintain a high level of professionalism, appearance, and conduct.
Must work flexible hours to support short notice congressional duties, waiving certain provisions provided by the CBA.
- Successfully complete SOD Field Training Program;
Motor Officer Field Training Program;
Basic FLHTP Motor School;
Basic Traffic Crash Investigation; and the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) School. - Satisfactorily complete a one-year probationary period beginning on the date of completion of the Motor FTO Program.
- After showing a high level of proficiency operating the FLHTP Motorcycle, officers will be required to attend a Police Motorcycle Instructor School.
- Officers will be required to successfully pass quarterly in-service training and uniform & equipment inspections.
There is no education substitution for experience in this series and/or grade.
