The National Indian Gaming Commission's primary mission is to work within the framework created by the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) for the regulation of gaming activities conducted by tribes on Indian lands to fully realize IGRA's goals: (1) promoting tribal economic development, self-sufficiency and strong tribal governments; (2) maintaining the integrity of the Indian gaming industry; and (3) ensuring that tribes are the primary beneficiaries of their gaming activities.
Role DescriptionThe Supervisory Public Affairs Specialist is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and executing the agency's public affairs program, and supervising the legislative and intergovernmental affairs program, community engagement program, and internal/ external information sharing activities for the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC).

Major duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Manages and coordinates all external communications and responses/products related to media, legislative affairs, interagency partners or other significant external entities, as well as communications involving substantial internal initiatives and policy issues.
Directs and oversees process for addressing incoming written communications. Serves as a point of contact for all public communications and interactions.
Oversees internal information programs and messaging platforms (SharePoint) as a means to communicate with employees.
Coordinates implementation for agency-wide policies, criteria, and procedures governing media relations, legislative affairs, community engagement and internal/external information.
Oversees administration and development of agency website, intranet and social media messaging and platforms to ensure proper external messaging, public content and account management.
Analyzes, evaluates and advises management on the impact and effectiveness of public and media engagement programs and products and recommends methods and techniques for disseminating information that will increase stakeholder awareness. Supervises Public Affairs Program and Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs staff members, including applying and enforcing all NIGC personnel policies; responsible for all aspects of employee accountability, performance, and development. Publicly recognizes individual and team achievements and works to provide meaningful avenues for feedback.
