Manager, Policy Initiatives

This position requires weekly in-office work (3 days) in Washington D.C. under a hybrid working model.

Overview

The Manager, Policy Initiatives coordinates and manages policy projects. Working with the SVP, Policy & Advocacy, the Manager develops a new state model policy project, coordinates member policy advocacy, and supports engagement with external partners. Excellent organizing and communication skills and understanding of state and federal policy arenas related to aging services are essential. The Manager works closely with Leading Age’s policy staff, state partners, and other organizations and coalitions concerned with aging services.

Responsibilities
  • Establish and coordinate a state model policy design project, including forming a working group of state partners and selecting initial state model policies to develop.
  • Identify state partner priorities, coordinate subject matter experts, and manage development and roll‑out of state model policies to states.
  • Create a state policy and policy tools clearing house.
  • Coordinate Leading Age’s annual Lobby Day and support other grassroots advocacy activities.
  • Serve as the periodic lead organizer of the Leadership Council of Aging Organizations, including developing and sending a regular newsletter, managing sign‑on letters, and coordinating committees and other council work.
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned within the job classification.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience (minimum five years of related experience).
  • Knowledge of federal immigration policy as it relates to the workforce and the aging services field.
  • Understanding of federal congressional processes and state policy development methods.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and work independently while maintaining changing priorities.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including personal relationship skills with internal and external audiences.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently and effectively.

Ability to communicate information and ideas so others will understand; ability to learn/translate/refer to large amounts of technical material and produce extensive written communication; ability to travel to external meetings locally and nationally, including periodic overnight travel; frequent use of telephone and computer; ability to move about at the Annual Meeting, Leadership Summit Conference, and other meetings and events; may be required to move frequently in the office, stand/sit for prolonged periods, and access file cabinets or office equipment.

Compensation

and Benefits
  • Salary range: $76,203 – $93,137 (full‑time, 37.5‑hour work week, exempt, D.C. based).
  • Unlimited vacation after successful completion of the introductory period; 15 hours Volunteer Time; 22.5 hours Personal Time.
  • 12 days of sick leave per year, up to 60 days or 450 hours.
