Position: PROTOCOL SPECIALIST

Summary

You will serve as a PROTOCOL SPECIALIST in the Command and Staff Department of HDQTRS NDW.

Duties
  • Lead all planning, coordination, preparation and execution for NDW events.
  • Design and produce formal invitations, flyers and programs and coordinate graphics and photographic support for events.
  • Develop, maintain, and revise standard operating procedures, policies, instructions, schedules of events and invite lists related to Protocol office operations.
  • Maintain excellent professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate seamless events and interactions that support NDW’s missions.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.
  • New employees to the Department of the Navy will be required to pass an E‑Verify employment verification check.
  • Current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level; time‑in‑grade must be met by the closing date.
  • Within the Department of Defense, appointment of retired military members within 180 days after retirement is subject to 5 U.S.C. § 3326.
  • Men born after 12‑31‑59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Applicants must obtain and maintain an interim or final security clearance before starting duty.
  • Position may require travel to CONUS and OCONUS, including remote or isolated sites; must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service, or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must include:

  • Developing comprehensive concepts of execution for events, briefing and receiving approval on plans, and providing progress reports to Commandant and senior leadership.
  • Conducting in‑depth after‑action reports and reviews and incorporating lessons learned for future improvement.
  • Developing, maintaining, and revising standard operating procedures, policies, instructions, schedules of events and invite lists related to Protocol Office operations.
Education

In lieu of general or specialized experience, qualification can be met with:

  • Successful completion of a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
  • Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree.
  • Possession of an LL.M. related to the position.
  • A combination of experience and graduate education that equates to one year of experience.
