About the Future of Land and Housing Program:

New America’s Future of Land and Housing Program (FLH) works to solve land, housing, and property rights challenges both domestically and internationally. Through research, writing, and convening, we strive to bring technologists, policymakers, advocates, and researchers into the same room to help find solutions to vexing challenges in the housing and land rights space. In our domestic work, we examine the causes and impacts of housing loss, affordable home ownership and the intersections between housing security and climate change, with a particular focus on the impact of structural factors like racism, poverty, and environmental injustice.

We take a data-driven approach to understand where housing instability is most acute, who is most impacted, and why; and we communicate these findings to policymakers and advocates, helping to develop solutions.

About the Position:

FLH is looking for a candidate to help advance its U.S. land and housing portfolio, which currently focuses on housing loss and insecurity, eviction data, access to affordable home ownership, and the intersections between housing and climate change. The ideal candidate is passionate about implementation of large scale change efforts, particularly for housing stability, with experience in project management and coordinating learning networks.

Familiarity with court eviction data, eviction processes and housing stability are a plus. The candidate should be a self-starter and a good multi-tasker, and capable of working in a fast paced environment on a small, agile team, acting as the right hand to the Eviction Data Response Network Initiative Director. The candidate should also thrive on collaboration, as partnerships and multi-stakeholder approaches are essential to our work.

This role will begin with an emphasis on project and knowledge management management and will progress towards deeper technical assistance and thought leadership as the candidate acquires domain knowledge and experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Approximately 75% of this position’s time will be primarily focused on supporting the Initiative Director for the Eviction Data Response Network (EDRN), including but not limited to:
    • Act as lead project manager for EDRN, coordinate a national learning network of up to 10 statewide eviction prevention teams. Duties will include structuring and executing quarterly virtual and annual in-person partner convenings; coordinating and assisting in the provision of 1-1 coaching to state partners; and helping to develop knowledge and policy products based on EDRN experiences.
    • Author initial drafts on a small but high-impact team that helps partners build robust data infrastructure and effective problem solving systems.
    • Interface with contracted technologists to support tech-enabled solutions for EDRN cohort partners and partner with colleagues on technology solutions for collecting and analyzing court eviction data.
    • Support grantmaking processes such as executing grantee agreements, processing payments and gathering required reporting.
    • Monitor evaluation and learning, ensuring the initiative generates evidence of impact and insights that can scale nationwide.
  • The remaining time (25%) will be focused on supporting the FLH team, including but not limited to:
    • Contribute to the design and implementation of FLH’s domestic housing work, ranging from policy and communication projects to mixed-methods research.
    • Oversee external communications and events for FLH, including for a monthly newsletter, web page, social media, webinars, and in-person events, and other engagements.
    • Communicate our work with teams internal and external to New America, including housing policymakers, advocates, academics, funders, and technologists.
    • Additional responsibilities and duties may be dictated by events and circumstances.
Qualifications/Education and/or Experience Requirements:
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher;
  • Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience, preferably in a U.S. housing, urban planning, public policy, public health, judicial operations, legal aid, or a related field;
  • Excellent and proven project management skills. In…
