Overview

Clinical Pharmacy Specialist - NICU - $20,000 Sign on Bonus at Children s National Hospital

Base pay range: $/yr - $/yr. This range is provided by Children s National Hospital. Your actual pay will be based on your skills and experience — talk with your recruiter to learn more.

Responsibilities
  • Order Processing and Accreditation Readiness:
    Interpret medication orders, profile orders and oversee the packaging, labeling and distribution of medications; input orders into the pharmacy computer system; staff the pharmacy operation to maintain distribution skills; assist in unit inspections and verifying accreditation readiness; review medication lists for therapeutic duplication, omissions, dosing errors, drug interactions, and allergies; review, interpret, and verify new medication orders to ensure appropriate drug, dose, route, and frequency;

    assist nursing staff and other providers with automated dispensing machine questions.
  • Interventions/Documentation:
    Perform drug therapy monitoring and intervene on dosing, administration, interactions, side-effects and monitoring issues; complete therapeutic drug monitoring consults and adverse reaction reports; document interventions and drug information; document in patient chart when applicable; collaborate with multidisciplinary team to ensure appropriate medication access and propose alternative therapies as needed; participate in medication reconciliation to ensure a complete home medication list;

    work with providers to implement and communicate comprehensive medication evaluation and management across care settings.
  • Staff Development and Training:
    Educate, train and supervise pharmacy students and residents; train new pharmacists; provide lectures and drug reviews to professional groups; develop system changes and educational programs to reduce errors (prescribing, dispensing, administration).
  • Clinical Services:
    Ensure appropriate medication use across the organization; identify drugs/therapies for formulary consideration; provide accurate and timely drug information to clinicians; maintain an active clinical practice based on evidence-based medicine; serve as a clinical resource for pharmacists, nurses and physicians; assist in management of drug shortages; represent the department on key committees; assist informatics and operations with formulary updates; contribute to collaborative practice opportunities.
  • Quality Improvement:
    Lead cost-savings initiatives; participate in quality improvement initiatives; contribute to order set development and implementation; support growth of clinical pharmacy programs; engage in performance/quality improvement and patient safety activities; identify high-cost, high-use agents and participate in cost management initiatives.
  • Professional Development:
    Participate in or lead research initiatives; present or moderate at conferences; engage in preceptor development; contribute to primary literature by publications or posters.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Education:

    Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.

    D.)
  • Minimum

    Work Experience:

    2 years; at least 1 year of pediatric/specialized/academic/clinical pharmacy experience; 6 years required for candidates without a PGY2 residency
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    Pharmacist licensure in the District of Columbia (and possibly Maryland and Virginia, specialty dependent);
    Board Certified Pharmacist (BPS) depending on specialty
