What You Will Do

As an Achievement Prep Occupational Therapist, you will ensure that scholars are progressing on their individual goals by delivering effective, high-quality intervention. This related service provider is a key member of the scholar support team and will collaborate with the Mental Health Clinician, Social Worker, Speech-Language Pathologist, Scholar Support Teachers, and General Education teachers to ensure that ALL scholars have access to a quality education.

Reporting

to the Director of Scholar Support, you will:
Service Delivery
  • Provides direct and indirect clinical services to scholars who have been diagnosed with an academically-based communication disorder in areas of articulation, languages, voice and/or fluency.
  • Provide speech and language therapy to special education scholars in groups and as individuals per their Individual Education Plans
  • Provide intervention to scholars through response to intervention including small groups and classroom intervention
  • Provides direct/indirect service to scholars diagnosed with a swallowing disorder as it relates to the educational environment.
  • Provides an implemented therapeutic program to meet the individual needs of scholars with diagnosed communication impairment
  • Provides speech, language and hearing screenings
  • Provides and completes comprehensive diagnostic assessments of speech, voice, and language impairments; and determines the presence/absence of a specific communication disorder which adversely impacts academic progress.
  • Case manage ‘Speech Only IEP’ scholars
  • Coordinates assistive technology support services.
  • Maintains all documents required to file Medicaid claims and required by Medicaid, including signed copies of all Health Encounter Tracking Forms, Assessment reports, and progress notes in the scholar file.
Stakeholder Management
  • Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech, language and literacy development
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments
  • Assist in the proper referrals of scholars to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate
  • Keep thorough records for each scholar receiving therapy or other school provided speech-language services
  • Participate in case conferences to discuss scholar goals and plans
School and Community Support
  • Demonstrate strong pedagogy
  • Implement the school-wide scholar management policies within classrooms and everywhere on campus
  • Exhibit positive rapport with scholars while creating and fostering a positive learning environment
  • Establish and maintain strong communication lines with all parents
  • Be available for Open Houses, Parent-Teacher Conferences and other events involving parents
  • Assist in the development of curriculum standards and mapping
  • Participate in any meetings for scholars on caseload including, but not limited to, Scholar Support Team (SST) Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, and Manifestation Determination Review (MDR) meetings
  • Collaboratively work with both the General Education Team and Scholar Support (SPED) department
  • Attend and participate in whole-school staff and scholar events such as family nights, new scholar orientation, etc.
