Job Description Summary
At GW Health Desk, we promote the use of digital health tools to mitigate the effects of social determinants of health. Our mission is to introduce digital health tools in hard‑to‑reach communities to solve difficult problems associated with chronic disease. The tools we support help people manage their chronic illness and promote a healthier life. The challenge we face is to overcome social and economic barriers that limit the utilization of revolutionary healthcare tools.
Health Desk overcomes these barriers through academic‑community partnerships and a culture of communication and trust with participants to improve digital health literacy.
GW Health Desk (HP) began as a partnership with the Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church (PABC) to host a mobile health education desk that held pop‑up events throughout the D.C. area, specifically Wards 5, 7, and 8 of Washington, D.C. With help from our community and GWU volunteers, Health Desk has registered over 500 residents and assisted them in optimizing their phones and navigating digital health tools for chronic disease management.
HD has an actively funded grant to provide digital health coaching services with a focus on residents of Wards 7 and 8 in Washington, DC.
GW Health Desk is looking for a part‑time Digital Health Literacy Coach. The coach will participate in digital health coaching, training, mentoring, supervising, organizing event tasks, and participating in weekly meetings with HD team, student coaches, and sponsors.
- Coordinate and participate in virtual and mobile events, including recruiting volunteers, ordering supplies, and communicating with partner organizations.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling team meetings and responding to email inquiries.
- Coordinate transportation for Health Desk supplies, in case of in‑person pop‑up events.
- Write/Edit content for the Health Desk website.
- Deliver digital health coaching, which may include helping Health Desk visitors or members navigate phone optimization settings, application downloads, and patient portal access.
- Coordinating funded project activities, data entry, and reports.
- Assist team with filming, editing, and developing training content.
- Complete assigned projects related to program needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
The role comes with data management responsibilities, which include Microsoft Office applications, Google Applications, Red Cap data entry into EDC interfaces, mobile data capture through iPad, and report generation.
