Job Summary

Responsible for providing therapeutic treatment services for individuals who represent a full range of diagnostic categories and degrees of psychiatric disabilities. Provides professional, recovery based, client focused therapy services that value and reflect cultural and ethnic diversity. Utilizes best treatment practices which promote recovery, reduce stigma, and enhance quality of life and promotes a positive therapeutic milieu. In consultation with LPC supervisor, recommends new and/or modified therapeutic activities for individuals based on observations, trends, and program needs.

Conducts group sessions and develops curriculum-based lesson plans for groups conducted. Attends clinical supervision with an LPC supervisor. Communicate with multidisciplinary recovery team during Individual Plan (IRP) reviews and provide information to teams regarding treatment services and works to establish long‑and short‑term goals for individuals. Participates in departmental performance improvement projects and tracking, audits and related activities.

Qualifications

Knowledge of counseling theories, principles, and professional practices involved planning and providing diagnostic and treatment services for psychiatric patients.

Licensures, Certifications And Other Requirements

Must be a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC)

Note

Incumbent must acquire his/her Licensed Professional Counselor within three years of employment.

Education

Master’s degree or higher (Social science, Psychology, Social Work, Human Services, Behavioral Science, Psychiatric Nursing, Rehabilitation Counseling, Family Counseling, Individual and Family Development or other related disciplines.

Work Experience

Experience providing therapeutic treatment services for individuals who represent a full range of diagnostic categories and degrees of psychiatric disabilities.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a controlled environment and involves some exposure to moderate risk of accidents and requires following basic safety precautions.

Residency Preference Amendment Act of 1988

A person applying for a position in the Career Service, Educational Service, Management Supervisory Service, a line attorney position in the Legal Service (series 905), or an attorney position in the Excepted Service (series 905) who is a bona fide District resident AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION for the position may be awarded a 10-point residency preference over non-District applicants, unless the person declines the preference points.

If selected, the person shall be required to present proof of bona fide District residency and maintain such residency for 7 consecutive years from the effective date of the appointment. Failure to maintain bona fide District residency for the 7-year period will result in forfeiture of employment.
