This position is located in the Department of Health (DC Health) within the Office of The Director, Office of Health Equity (OHE). DC Health promotes health, wellness, and equity across the District, and protects the safety of residents, visitors, and those doing business in the nation’s capital. Integral to this role is a strong commitment to intentionally and meaningfully engage with community partners to assure inclusion and integration of their voices and lived experiences into all initiatives at DC Health. The incumbent will work closely with community partners to co‑develop engagement protocols and best practices for DC Health to utilize and integrate into all future initiatives. This includes the incorporation of community knowledge, skills and resources into the design, delivery and adaptation of programs, policies, strategies and services.

The incumbent will facilitate collaborative processes between community partners and DC Health, as outlined in the Community Engagement and Inclusion Workplan, while supporting the implementation of plan activities, reporting, and process documentation. The incumbent will also apply a community approach to health literacy by considering all the places and methods where communities look for and exchange information, as well as how easy or difficult it is for them.

The incumbent needs skill in applying fact‑finding, analytical, and problem‑solving methods and techniques to identify interrelated program problems and recommend solutions to improve program efficiency and effectiveness. Proficiency in the use of various software (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite, and other analytical and graphic and presentation software) to produce reports, fact sheets and presentations. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, coworkers, elected and appointed officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation or sexual orientation.

Incumbent serves as a team member at the Office of Health Equity with the primary responsibility of establishing and supporting internal and external partnerships to assess the needs of all stakeholders related to the development and implementation of public health programs. Additionally, this position is responsible for developing networks with community organizations and attends collaborative meetings and community events; identifies and participates in community coalitions.

Assists partners and stakeholders with determining needs and action steps related to developing and implementing services.
