AAMC Policy/Regulatory Analyst Fellow position (part-time) is available to a graduate student in public health, public policy, or law. The fellowship may run from April to November 2026. The AAMC Policy and Regulatory Affairs fellow will function as a member of the Policy and Regulatory team to help advance strategic priorities impacting academic medicine.

The fellow will monitor, track, and analyze federal and state-level legislative and regulatory and policy developments related to Medicaid, rural health transformation initiatives, and graduate medical education (GME). The work of the fellow will help to translate policy developments into actionable insights that inform advocacy, member engagement, and federal and state policy strategy. This fellowship is ideal for individuals interested in health policy, academic medicine, and the intersection of federal and state health‑care financing.

The Fellow will work under the supervision of senior members of the AAMC Policy and Regulatory team and other AAMC staff as appropriate.

• Track and analyze federal and state legislative, regulatory, and administrative activity affecting Medicaid programs, including coverage, financing, and delivery system reforms. Identify emerging trends.
• Monitor policy development related to rural health transformation funds and rural workforce initiatives.
• Assess state level policies influencing GME financing, physician workforce development, and residency training.
• Develop and maintain internal tracking tools of these policies.
• Support development of advocacy materials, comment letters, presentations, and member‑facing resources.

The AAMC Policy and Regulatory Affairs Team advances federal and policy priorities that support the mission of academic medicine. The team provides strategic analysis and advocacy on legislative and regulatory issues affecting teaching hospitals and health systems with a focus on Medicare and Medicaid policy, GME, physician workforce development, payment and delivery system reform, and access to care. The team monitors emerging policy developments, analyzes their implications for academic medicine, and develops recommendations to inform policymakers.

Through comment letters, policy analysis, coalition engagement, and direct outreach to federal officials, the team helps shape policies that promote access to high‑quality patient care and support for sustainable health care financing.

• Currently enrolled in a degree‑granting, graduate‑level education program in public health, public policy, or law.
• Demonstrated interest in Medicaid policy, health care workforce policy, or academic medicine.
• Strong research, analytical and writing skills, with the ability to synthesize complex policy information clearly and concisely.
• Familiarity with state legislative or regulatory processes is preferred.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and track evolving policy developments across states.
• Strong interest in improving health care services in the United States.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Highly organized, detail‑oriented.
• Ability to work independently.
• Capability for teleworking, if chosen.

This is a part‑time position requiring 20 hours of work per week
. Fellows will be paid at an hourly rate of $26.80 per hour by AAMC.

Fellows will have access to a workspace, a laptop computer with the necessary software programs, and related AAMC datasets as appropriate.
