Community Dietitian

Founded in 1988, Food & Friends provides medically-tailored meals, nutrition support, and friendship to people living with AIDS, cancer, and other life‑challenging illnesses. Our team of seventy employees and thousands of volunteers delivers meals and hope to people living in the District of Columbia and multiple counties across Maryland and Virginia. There is no charge or income qualification for our services, which are rendered solely on the basis of medical need.

We seek a Community Dietitian to provide nutrition counseling and education to Maryland clients living with diabetes and other serious illnesses.

• Provide nutrition counseling and ongoing follow‑up to clients via phone, telehealth, or home visits;
• Document all client nutrition assessments and follow‑ups in the client database;
• Ensure that clients receive appropriate diet modifications;
• Coordinate mailings, printing, documentation, and filing of client contact materials; and
• Assist with development of client education materials and publications.

Must be willing to work onsite at Food & Friends’ Washington, DC headquarters.

The successful candidate must be licensed (or able to be licensed) in Maryland with a minimum of one year of related experience. Must be self‑motivated, collaborative, and possess strong time‑management skills. A valid driver’s license and willingness to do home visits are required. Additional requirements include knowledge of evidence‑based nutrition, knowledge of diabetes medical nutrition therapy, excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability and willingness to deliver group presentations, and strong presentation skills.

Offer of employment contingent upon a background check and pre‑employment drug test.

The Community Dietitian will earn an annual salary in the range of $73,000 to $75,000. Food & Friends provides generous benefits, including medical, dental, disability, retirement plan, paid maternity/paternity leave, three weeks of paid leave for new hires, and weekly short Fridays.
