Job Summary
Regularly performs the full range and scope of housekeeping services at a Navy Gateway Inn and Suites and/or Navy Lodge property. Tasks include cleaning guest rooms, interior and public spaces, storage areas, laundry rooms, exterior spaces, and more. Services involve vacuuming, mopping, dusting, scrubbing, washing, moving items, polishing, removing debris, trash, transporting clean and dirty linens, towels, etc. Uses hand and powered cleaning equipment as required.
Dutiesand Responsibilities
Cleans guest rooms and other assigned areas. Operates cleaning equipment such as vacuum cleaners, carpet cleaners, waxers, and polishers. Empties wastebaskets, dusts, waxes, and polishes room furniture. Washes walls, partitions, air vents, disinfects and deodorizes toilets, lavatories, etc. Washes and replaces window treatments and cleans ceiling fixtures. Changes light bulbs and room partitions using ladders and scaffolds. Moves furniture to clean under and behind, uses step stool to clean windows and window treatments, cabinet tops, mirrors, and picture frames.
Cleans bathroom areas including tubs, tiles, walls, commodes, floors, and vanities. Cleans kitchen area including stoves, ovens, microwaves, refrigerators, cabinets, and floor. Washes and disinfects dishes, utensils, and cookware.
- Uses iron and ironing board; replaces cover as necessary. Ensures proper functionality of luggage racks and the availability of male/female hangers in closets. Keeps TVs clean, programmed to proper channel and volume; alarm clocks properly programmed with backup battery; in-room phones clean, programmed, and working.
- Places proper number of amenities in rooms, including consumables and non-consumables. Removes and replaces bed linen; inspects mattresses and pull-out sofas. Moves or repositions beds upon guest checkout weekly or on guest request.
- Greets and welcomes guests upon sight, maintaining outstanding guest relations.
- Ensures privacy and security of guests at all times.
- Cleans vacuums and mops corridors, stairways, guest laundry, patios, and balconies. Shampoos rugs, carpets, and polishes rails of stairways regularly. Completes scheduled carpet cleaning with industrial-type carpet cleaners and equipment.
- Performs deep cleaning as required by program standards, e.g., on a scheduled basis and upon check-out of guests in pet-friendly rooms or rooms that had an ADA service animal. Tasks include defrosting the refrigerator, cleaning windows inside and out, carpet cleaning, shampooing, spotting treatments, cleaning walls, and other necessary duties.
- Maintains cleanliness and order of storage rooms.
- Communicates status of cleaned rooms and other spaces to supervisor through completion of daily assignments or property management system.
- Accomplishes minor repairs and maintenance of equipment; reports major repair or replacement needs to supervisor.
- Cleans and inspects exterior spaces such as parking lots and outdoor pathways.
- May load and unload trucks or vans; assist with receipt of supplies from vendors, assembly, separation, storage, and delivery of merchandise by opening boxes and crates. May move heavy items using hand trucks. Uses common hand tools such as hammers, pliers, box cutters, crowbars, and shears for cutting bands.
- Handles pass key and other assigned keys; returns all keys at the end of each shift.
- Reports immediately to supervisor for issues such as no luggage in a stay‑over guest room, no service needed, room status vacancies, extra guests, unauthorized pets, and other unusual circumstances.
- Reports lost and found items immediately to housekeeping supervisor, listing room number or area where item was found.
- May set up, break down, and clean up the complimentary self‑service breakfast bar; assist with preparing, heating, displaying, and replenishing breakfast items available to guests during breakfast hours. Ensures surrounding area returns to original state and is free of leftover food by the end of designated breakfast hour. Requires proper food handling certifications as applicable.
