6 days per month onsite with specific scheduled days and times subject to the operational needs of the team and manager approval.

All remote or hybrid work arrangements must be performed from within the continental United States, subject to Sergeant at Arms approval.

Job Description Job Overview

The Sergeant at Arms is seeking an experienced Active Directory specialist to design, implement, and manage our enterprise-wide Active Directory infrastructure. This is a highly technical, senior-level position requiring expertise in AD architecture, security best practices, and automation. The ideal candidate will be a subject matter expert in AD technologies with a proven track record of designing scalable, secure, and resilient AD solutions for complex environments.

Experience with Active Directory Integrated DNS and Quest Active Roles for delegation and automation is essential.

Key Accountabilities / Essential

Job Duties
  • Deploy and upgrade software solutions and operating systems, implementing system and server modifications to meet organizational needs.
  • Conduct compatibility evaluations of new software versions for applications supported by other CIO groups to ensure no adverse impact to the operating system or other applications.
  • Lead market research, evaluation, design, and implementation of technology solutions to meet business requirements.
  • Monitor the impact of technological developments, identify emerging technologies, and scope potential Senate utility.
  • Lead cross‑organizational teams in communication, documentation, design, deployment, governance, and ongoing support of complex IT systems.
  • Develop and maintain technical support documentation, standard operating procedures, and participate in Change Management.
  • Serve as the highest‑level internal escalation point for issues affecting supported solutions.
  • Work with external vendors as necessary to resolve problems that cannot be resolved internally.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications Required Education

High School Diploma / GED.

Required Work Experience
  • 8-10 years of related experience.
Required Special Skills / Knowledge
  • As part of the hiring process, a skills assessment may be conducted to better understand an applicant’s proficiency in key areas relevant to the role.
Desired Qualifications
  • Relevant industry certifications, such as Microsoft Certified:
    Identity and Access Administrator Associate or Microsoft 365 Certified.
  • Experience with other Quest products.
  • Experience with disaster recovery and business continuity planning for AD.
Working Conditions
  • This position directly supports essential services of the U.S. Senate. The employee must be available and prepared to work during lulls, inclement weather, holidays, weekends, and late nights to ensure uninterrupted Senate services.
  • The Senate network cannot be taken offline for maintenance during the workday or while the Senate is in session. Maintenance windows may only occur at night, on weekends, or on holidays.
  • Schedules may include working nights, weekends, and holidays for systems upgrades, maintenance, wiring, backups, and alternate data center support.
  • Work is sedentary with extended periods of sitting and standing.
Security Clearance
  • This position requires the applicant to obtain and maintain a Secret U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens to allow the SAA to submit a security clearance application.
