Role Description

We are seeking a Principal SAP Data Architect for a contract position. As a key contributor, you will design and manage data architecture, oversee data governance, and develop optimized data management processes. This hybrid role is based in the Washington DC-Baltimore Area, with the flexibility to work partially from home. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless data integration and support for SAP-related projects.

Qualifications

Expertise in Data Governance and establishing robust data compliance frameworks
Proficiency in Data Architecture and Data Modeling practices
Experience with Extract Transform Load (ETL) processes and tools
Understanding of Data Warehousing concepts and systems
Strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills
Familiarity with SAP system implementation and optimization
Previous experience in hybrid work environments is preferred
Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related discipline

Key Responsibilities

Lead end-to-end architecture of enterprise SAP data, analytics, and AI solutions across multiple platforms and product teams.

Design and implement a unified data ecosystem leveraging SAP S/4

HANA, BW/4

HANA, Data Sphere, and SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC).

Establish enterprise-wide data governance, standardization, and best practices for SAP data architecture.

Architect hybrid data models integrating SAP and non-SAP data sources into high-performance pipelines.

Define and implement semantic modeling and data virtualization frameworks for scalable analytics.

Drive SAP modernization initiatives including S/4

HANA migrations and Data Sphere adoption

Integrate SAP data platforms with cloud ecosystems such as Azure and Databricks
.

Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data engineers, architects, and analytics teams
.

Develop production-ready architectural blueprints, documentation, and reusable design patterns.

Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Data Governance teams to align SAP initiatives with business strategy.

Enable advanced analytics and AI/ML capabilities using trusted data frameworks and AI-ready architecture
.

Ensure high data quality, master data management, and governance using MDG and data quality frameworks
.

Translate complex technical architectures into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders and agile teams
.

Accelerate “shovel-ready” SAP programs that transform raw enterprise data into business intelligence and outcomes.

Maintain compliance, scalability, and performance optimization across enterprise SAP and cloud data platforms.

Qualifications (Additional)

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field
8+ years of experience in SAP Data Architecture & SAP Data Engineering
Strong expertise in SAP S/4

HANA, BW/4

HANA, Data Sphere, SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)
Hands-on experience with Azure, Databricks, Cloud Integrations
Deep knowledge of MDG (Master Data Governance), Data Quality Frameworks, AI/ML Enablement
Proven experience in SAP Modernization & Migration Projects
Strong leadership, stakeholder communication, and strategic architecture skills
SAP or Cloud Certifications (
Azure / AWS / GCP
) – Preferred
