The Role

Our BANKING & FINANCIAL SERVICES CONSULTING PRACTICE group is looking for a Scrum Master to join our journey.

The Scrum Master is responsible for guiding Agile teams in the effective use of Scrum practices, removing impediments, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement. This role ensures that teams remain focused, collaborative, and aligned with organizational goals while delivering high‑quality products. (6-8 years)

We’re looking for a Scrum Master who can deliver within Cognizant’s Five Pillars of Consulting
:
1) Project Execution,
2) Expertise,
3) Business Development,
4) Practice Development, &
5) People Development. As a Consultant, this means creating high-quality client deliverables and taking ownership (with supervision) of producing client content and meeting client expectations; developing an expertise in your functional area, including obtaining certifications; contributing to Client Satisfaction and/or RFPs; supporting leadership and contributing to content development for service offerings; and participating in People Care initiatives and exhibiting personal leadership at all times.

Responsibilities Facilitation & Agile Delivery
  • Lead and facilitate all Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, daily stand‑ups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
  • Support the team in breaking down work, estimating effort, and maintaining a healthy, prioritized backlog.
  • Ensure the team adheres to Agile principles and Scrum best practices.
Team Support & Coaching
  • Coach team members, product owners, and stakeholders on Agile mindset, frameworks, and delivery practices.
  • Promote self‑organization, accountability, and cross‑functional collaboration within the team.
  • Identify team dynamics issues and help foster a positive, productive working environment.
Impediment Removal
  • Proactively identify and remove blockers that hinder team progress.
  • Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, leadership, and external partners to resolve dependencies.
  • Shield the team from distractions to maintain focus on sprint goals.
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Work closely with the Product Owner to ensure clarity of requirements, readiness of user stories, and alignment on priorities.
  • Facilitate communication between technical and business stakeholders to ensure shared understanding.
  • Provide visibility into team progress through metrics, dashboards, and status updates.
Continuous Improvement
  • Drive a culture of learning and improvement through regular retrospectives and actionable follow‑ups.
  • Encourage experimentation, innovation, and adoption of new tools or practices that enhance team performance.
  • Monitor team health, velocity, and delivery patterns to identify improvement opportunities.
Agile Governance & Reporting
  • Maintain sprint artifacts such as burndown charts, team capacity plans, and impediment logs.
  • Support Agile transformation initiatives and contribute to organizational Agile maturity.
  • Ensure compliance with internal processes, quality standards, and delivery frameworks.
Qualifications
  • 6-8 years working in technology, consulting, professional services, or solution development within the industry.

Strong understanding of Agile methodologies, especially Scrum and Kanban.

Experience facilitating Scrum ceremonies and coaching teams in Agile practices.

Excellent communication, conflict‑resolution, and servant‑leadership skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and navigate complex stakeholder environments.

Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira, Azure Dev Ops, or Rally.

Working arrangements

Hybrid, Washington DC.

Compensation
  • $86,500-$101,500
  • This position is eligible for Cognizant’s discretionary annual incentive program, based on performance and subject to the terms of Cognizant’s applicable plans
